A New Season - What to do, what to do...

And suddenly, you are an empty nester.

Your last, in my case only, child is now in college and has spread his or her wings.

WHAT DO YOU DO NOW?
Well, you make a choice.  The options are thrive or thrive.
You thrive.  You do things you've always dreamed of but couldn't do.

1. Go back to school.
2. Take a pottery or painting class.
3. Go on a cruise or go backpacking in the Himalayas.
4. Volunteer at the local nursing home.
5. Work in the cafeteria at an elementary school.
6. Go fishing 3 times per week.
7. Learn to knit.
8. Rock preemies at the local hospital.
9. Start a rock band.
10. Take a cooking class.

The possibilities are endless! Life happens in seasons.  The empty nest season can be fruitful and fun.  Start out by making a list of things you've always wanted to do (the proverbial "bucket list") a d start doing them.

I have been told many things and asked many questions.  "What will you do with yourself when she's gone?  You'll be so depressed.  I'm so sorry.  Life will be so hard for you."  These are not encouraging words, folks.  People look at me as though I have two heads when I tell them that I'm excited for her and for me too!  I'm ready to embrace this season and do what I want to do, having only myself really, to schedule around. I have learned that I am a priority too.

I will spread my wings, though they've had a little more wear than 18 years ago, and fly.  I have raised an intelligent, independent, godly, wonderful girl who will SOAR.  It would be so cool to soar next to her in our new seasons.

MY ADVICE TO YOU EMPTY NESTERS
Take time for you.  Get that massage.  Go swimming with dolphins in the Caribbean.  Life doesn't end at empty nest.  In fact, the empty nest just gives more space for you to take off.  Fly. No... SOAR.

  1. Great post. However, my empty nest didn't stay empty long.... and that is alright cause I'm still soaring.
